Authorities said the men have been able to get away from law enforcement multiple times in the past.

However, Thursday night, police found the men and tried to pull over their vehicle near 420 E. and Ft. Union Blvd. but the car sped off.

"When they tried the traffic stop, the vehicle initially slowed to the side of the road but then fled," Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said. "One of our detectives was able to perform a PIT maneuver quickly and disable that vehicle."

But the suspects didn't easily give up.

Officers said one of the men, Lane Porter, was armed with a gun and ran off.

Authorities said he jumped out, was hit by a patrol car, was taken into custody and is in fair condition.

The driver, Shane Michael Tisdale, was also arrested; officers found an ounce of heroin and an ounce of meth in the car.

The other passenger escaped and is on the run.

Officers described him as a Polynesian man with a shaved head who was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and tan long, baggy shorts.

ELECTION RESULTS: Prop. 1 passes in 10 counties; council & mayor’s race results

SALT LAKE CITY — Proposition 1, the sales tax hike that would pay for road projects and transit, appears to have passed in 10 of the 17 counties it was on the ballot.

Early results show the proposition passed in Carbon, Davis, Duchesne, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Grand, Tooele and Weber counties. It did not pass in Beaver, Box Elder, Juab, Morgan, Uintah and Utah and appeared to be failing in Salt Lake County.

The quarter-cent sales tax, which excludes food, will cost the average resident about $40 per year, backers of it claimed.

“We’re pleased that voters throughout Utah see the value of investing in local transportation. Prop 1 is an investment in our air quality, economy and good transportation options close to home. While many voters approved Prop 1, we’re disappointed it didn’t pass in all 17 counties,” Abby Albrecht, the director of the Utah Transportation Coalition and the chair of the support campaign for Prop. 1, said in a statement.

ELECTION NEWS: Biskupski leads Becker in SLC mayor’s race, but he won’t concede

Americans For Prosperity, which opposed the tax, said it was happy Prop. 1 failed in so many counties. The group was critical over how much money would have gone to Utah Transit Authority.

“Forty percent of the tax hike would have gone to the UTA, which has proven itself time and time again to be a hotbed of waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer’s limited resources,” said AFP’s Evelyn Everton in a statement. “We’re excited to see Utahns stand up and say ‘enough is enough’ and are confident that when the final canvass is complete, voters will have made themselves clear: the UTA won’t get another penny from taxpayers until they can prove they will more responsibly manage our hard-earned taxpayer dollar.”

In other races:

  • Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell won re-election over his challenger, Sebastian Benitez;
  • Voters in South Salt Lake defeated a parks and recreation bond;
  • Herriman Hills Proposition 7 failed;
  • Sophia Hawes-Tingey, who would have been the first transgender elected official in Utah had she won, lost the Midvale City Council race to incumbent Paul Glover. Tingey conceded the race on Wednesday;
  • In the polygamous border town of Hildale, Kyle Layton, the first non-FLDS candidate to run for a spot on the town council, got only 50 votes compared to the incumbents who were all re-elected, the Spectrum of St. George reported;
  • The $298 million Davis County School bond passed;
  • Centerville, Woods Cross and West Bountiful approved their RAP (recreation, arts, parks) taxes;
  • The $56 million Park City school bond failed;
  • In Syracuse, only two votes separate Doug Peterson and Karianne Lisonbee for a city council spot with a recount possible

MIDVALE, Utah – Unified officers are searching for two suspects they said robbed a fast food restaurant overnight.

Authorities were called about the robbery at the Arby’s near 745 E. and Fort Union Blvd. just before 11 p.m.

Officers said the store was closed and the clerk was doing paperwork in the back when the suspects appeared, flashed a handgun and demanded money.

Police said all the store doors were locked which leads them to believe the suspects were hiding in the restaurant bathroom.

“The only place to hide in there would be in the restrooms,” Unified Lt. John Barker said. “We have to check with the other employees who aren’t here at this time to make sure they didn’t check those restrooms before they left.”

The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

One suspect is described as a 5’3″ woman and the other is a man who was about 5’10” tall.

Unified officers said they would like to speak with anyone who might have information in this case.

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah - Unified officers have raided three local computer and gaming stores as part of an internet gambling investigation.

Investigators raided the Mouse Pad Business Center in Midvale Thursday morning as well as two other locations in Kearns and Salt Lake City.

Officers went to the managers of each store with search warrants at 10 a.m. after an 18-month undercover sting operation.

Authorities said the complaints against the businesses came from neighbors who reported various criminal activity including drug use.

Unified officers have not confirmed how many people were arrested, if any, at this time.

However, they said they seized numerous computer and other evidence that will show if the allegations are true.

One customer told Fox 13 the center is nothing more than a computer store and a place for people to socialize but officers said that is not the case.

MIDVALE, Utah — Slick road conditions contributed to a series of crashes Tuesday morning on an I-215 on-ramp in Midvale.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crashes occurred around 5:30 on the on-ramp from northbound Union Park to westbound I-215.

Troopers temporarily closed the ramp to prevent further crashes and allow crews to put salt on the roadway. The ramp has since reopened.

UHP urges drivers to reduce speed and leave plenty of following distance when the roads are slippery.

Students with special needs bring magic of ‘Aladdin’ to stage in Midvale

MIDVALE – It can be difficult for children with special needs to express themselves, but through music and dance they can shine on stage.

A production of "Aladdin" in Midvale features a unique cast – all characters are played by students from Jordan Valley, which is a school for children with severe disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, communication impairments, genetic disorders and syndromes as well as deafness and blindness.

“It's an event for our students to shine,” said Mark Donnelly, Principal of Jordan Valley School.

Music Therapist Caitlin Newberger says a lot of behind-the-scenes people help pull off the production.

“It's a huge collaboration of teachers, ESPs, related services all helping to get the kids on stage to perform and have the opportunity to do their best for parents," Newberger said.

Teachers also help students verbalize their lines through use of pre-programmed iPads.

Newberger says expressing themselves on stage can help the students connect with others off stage.

“By rehearsing lines, we're working on communication skills," Newberger said. "By having them come on stage and do a dance, we're working on them sustaining attention. We're increasing abilities to follow instructions.”

Donnelly said the play gives the students a chance to press out beyond their boundaries.

“They're very comfortable here at Jordan Valley, so to see them actually be nervous a little bit and overcome that, that's also exciting to see,” Donnelly said.

Parents were thrilled with their performance.

“He thrives on stage. It is absolutely wonderful. I think it makes him grow,” said Sabrina Imig about her son Noah.

They’re also grateful teachers have given students the spotlight.

“The patience and the work they do with these children to bring them out of their shell, to get non-verbal kids to communicate, is just tremendous,” Imig said.

“I would pay money to see these kids. There is nothing like it,” said Lisa Pauley, another parent.

With a small budget, the school relies on volunteers who donate their time, props and costumes.

Students have one more performance scheduled for Thursday, March 24th.

MIDVALE, Utah - A marine veteran has found his service dog after it went missing from his hotel room.

The dog, whose name is Raider, was found and taken to the Utah Vet Center on 308 West and 7200 South in Midvale.

Chris Galliher said, "He can tell when I get anxious and when I get irritable so he comes up and nuzzles me to remind me that everything is going to be okay."

Chris got Raider to help him with his difficult transition into civilian life after serving in Afghanistan.

The USMC veteran says that they were playing at the Discovery Inn when he opened the door and Raider took off.

The pair was supposed to be heading home to Spokane Washington after attending marine promotion and retirement ceremonies at Camp Pendleton.

Chris also said, "I got raider when I felt like I felt like I was in a dark cave and there was no chance of seeing the light again and getting him was like having a little glint of hope."

Raider's owner suspects that his furry companion may have caught a glimpse of a squirrel which led to him running away so quickly.

Midvale girl dies days after found unconscious in family pool

UPDATE:  Unified Police confirmed 2-year-old Suzie Suhaka passed away Tuesday at  10 p.m. with her family by her side. She drowned in the family pool.

Officers said she was found face-down in the family pool two days ago and was taken off life support overnight.

MIDVALE, Utah — A 2-year-old Midvale is in critical condition and on life support after nearly drowning in her family’s new above-ground swimming pool Monday night.

According to a news release from the Unified Police Department, it appears the girl sneaked outside after her family had come in for the night.

“She was able to climb the ladder into the pool and was found unconscious and not breathing after being missing for only a few minutes,” the news release said.

The girl was taken by helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center for treatment. The Unified Police Department offered the following water safety tips to help prevent such incidents:

Now that the warm weather has arrived and most of our kids are out of school, the number of drownings and near drownings goes up sharply for emergency responders. The Unified Police Department (UPD) would like to remind everyone of some basic water safety rules for your toddlers and even your big kids.

Toddlers (age 1-4): Some of these may seem obvious and basic, but a little reminder never hurts.

1. Keep toilet lids closed and use toilet seat locks if you have a very curious toddler. Also keep doors to bathrooms and laundry rooms closed. Most children vulnerable to drowning in a toilet are too short to open doors.

2. NEVER leave your child unattended around water. Babies can drown in as little as one inch of water.

3. Private Swimming Pools: In-ground pools should have a four foot fence with a locking or self-latching gate around them. Above ground pools should have a removable ladder or removable steps so that the child can’t climb into it on their own.

4. Learn CPR. Knowing what to do in the case of an emergency is very important and can save lives.

5. Teach kids never to go near or in water without an adult present. Having floatation devices can give you a false sense of security. Nothing is fail proof and those water wings can slip off.

6. Be alert at public pools. Even though there is a lifeguard present, don’t assume that he/she is watching your child.

7. Empty all tubs, containers, buckets, play pools, wading pools and water-slides immediately after use. Also, story them upside down and out of reach of children so that they cannot re-fill with water.

8. Enroll your child in swimming lessons if at all possible. Teach them how to tread water and float.

Big Kids (age 5-16):

1. Install door and/or window alarms to alert you to the opening of a door or window leading to the pool area. (Can also come in handy if you have a child who likes to sneak out😉 )

2. Always have children swim with a partner, no matter where you are. That way there will always be someone to call for help or immediately notice if something is wrong.

3. Make sure your home pool or spa has a proper drain cover or shut-off function to prevent long hair, loose clothing or body parts from getting trapped.
